Leonard Jaffe has been my landlord and a friend for over 8 years, across two apartment complexes. Len had a knack for building a community in his buildings and was by far the best landlord I'd ever had. He'd always have time to stop for a chat, or try my latest failed attempt of jelly making. The only one I ever knew who didn't like Len was my small terrier dog, Diamond, who normally loved everyone. Perhaps, as a puppy in Len's apartment building, she always heard him around, but never got a chance to play, manifesting some resentment. She'd always bark to announce Len's arrival to the apartment complex. Being the hands-on type, Len came around a lot. I'd hold Diamond in my arms near him and she'd just growl quietly. When I won a gift certificate for a massage in the Lima Kokua chili day raffle, I gifted it to Len to make up for my little dog's misplaced animosity. On January 25th, I heard Len's voice in the hallway followed quickly by my lil dog announcing his presence for the last time. I'll miss that.
