Cheri Yamamoto's Obituary
Cheri Yamamoto, 79, of Kaneohe, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Born Cheryl Dianne Welch on August 12, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Frances Leo Welch, Jr. and Eva L. Welch (Robinson). Cheri was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Yamamoto, who passed away on February 14, 2017 and her late brother, Francis Leo “Frankie” Welch III of Portsmouth, NH. Cheri is survived by her 5 daughters Jeanne-Marie Coloma, Tamiko Broms, Julianne King, Kimiko Yamamoto, and Corrina Yamamoto; 9 grandchildren, Rhema Sabate, Zoe Sabate, Zechariah Sabate, Elijah Broms, Ethan Broms, Aukai King, Dane Northon, Beau King, Jazmyn Williams; 1 great grandchild, Sutton Williams.
Cheri graduated with the class of 1963 from Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire and later worked as a bookkeeper. Cheri retired as the Treasurer of PEMCO Ltd. in Honolulu. She was a former member of the Board of Directors at Windward Unity Church and was an experienced and passionate astrologer at Sedona Hawaii for over 20 years.
In 1980, Cheri and John moved from Auburn, Massachusetts to Honolulu, HI and built a beautiful life together. They lived in Kaneohe for the last 25 years. Once retired, they split their time in Larkspur, Colorado and enjoyed ranch living for a few years.
Cheri loved her family and friends and enjoyed hosting holidays around her dining room table. She was a voracious reader, a seeker of knowledge, had a profound memory, never missed birthdays or anniversaries, loved telling stories, and embraced traditional celebrations. She related to animal spirits throughout her life; as a young woman, the lion and later in life, the owl. Cheri loved and cared for her dogs Mandy, Keone, Makana, and Charlie; her kitties Nicky, Ninja, and O’he; and her bird, Caitlin. Cheri reminded us of God’s love, mercy, and forgiveness and enjoyed offering a prayer of thanksgiving before family meals.
Funeral services and a celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 8 at Valley of the Temples at the Trousdale Chapel on the hill, 9 am. The inurnment ceremony immediately following 11 am. Luncheon 12-3 pm, details provided at the services.
