Damien Lee Reynon's Obituary
Damien Lee Reynon was born on April 25, 1954 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His Mother was Marjorie Myong Soon Lee Chaffin. She passed away on 11/26/93 in Long Beach, California at age 69. His Father was Francis Echo Reynon. He passed away on 3/29/99 in St. Francis – West Hospital at age 74. Damien was the third oldest of six children. Francis “Jun” Reynon, Jr., the oldest passed away in Ewa Beach, HI on 3/13/98 at age 48. Michael Chaffin, the fourth oldest passed away in Plymouth, Massachusetts on 12/23/86 at age 30. Damien’s surviving siblings are Debra Brandon of Cypress, Texas; Cindy Curry of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Gary Chaffin of Jacksonville, Florida. Damien graduated from Waipahu High School 1972. He lived in Aiea, Kaimuki, Waipahu, Makiki, Waianae, Ewa Beach, Salt Lake and even San Francisco Naval Shipyard Hunters Point. He worked at an Airport Shipping Company, Holiday Mart, Daiei, and Times Super Market. But Diversified Exterminators was where he ended up working for a living. Damien served proudly in the US Navy from 4/16/83 to 4/17/89 on the USS Sample. His exposure to different places and jobs gave him the advantage of not only knowledge but knowing people from all walks of life. Damien was a friendly, sociable, down to earth, unassuming, no nonsense kind of guy. He was a proud man who would rather suffer pain in silence than bother someone for help. One night, Damien went to Waikiki to the Point After Night Club. The music was blaring and people were dancing. Damien looking slick in a black jacket slid across the floor to the back corner. He approached a girl tucked away in the back. He smiled. “Do you want to dance? Damien said. “Yeah”. She said. He held her hand and an electric volt resinated throughout her body. That was the beginning of their love story. On August 23, 1980, Damien Lee Reynon married Gloria Lorraine Visaya. Damien is survived by two sons, “Boo” Damien Lee Reynon II (Lisa) and Jeremy Manning Reynon (Angela). Damien is also survived by two grandsons Colin and Kainoa. Damien loved his sons very much. When Boo was hospitalized for asthma, Damien slept over with Boo in Kapiolani Medical Center. Whenever Jeremy cried to see the fire engines no matter how tired or what time, Damien would drive to the fire station just to make Jeremy happy. Damien loved his grandsons very much. While Colin was in Hawaii, Colin had a game where his Mickey Mouse car would chase him and Colin would run and jump onto Damien’s lap. Damien would burst into laughter. Kainoa would make funny faces, talk gibberish, walk funny to the point where Damien would laugh out loud and forget how much pain he was in. During Damien’s last days of his life, Kainoa with the help of Mommy (Lisa) made a get well card and gave it to Damien in the hospital. Damien kept that card with him to the end. Damien had a special bond with his mother-in-law Mary Visaya. Damien called her Mom and loved her. Mary loved Damien like the son she always wanted. They even had their own private jokes and laughed together. Damien loved dogs and dogs loved him. Once he nursed a pitbull Kuro to health and kept Kuro even though his face was disfigured. He nursed Sasha, a dancing poodle mix with kidney disease and laid a towel out for her wherever she went. His last pet dog was a shitzu papillon named Kobi. Kobi was Damien’s baby. Kobi followed Damien wherever he went, in the car, in the living room, to bed. When the firemen and paramedics tended to Damien, Kobi would stay by his side. Kobi had to be pryed from Damien. Damien’s two favorite TV shows were “The Rifleman” and the “Three Stooges”. He loved the Rifleman for its stories about the love between father and son and lessons about life. He loved “The Three Stooges” just because they made him laugh out loud without thinking. Damien fought for his life to the end. On March 12, 2019, his heart stopped and he passed away peacefully in Straub Clinic. He was 64. Damien is survived by his wife Gloria who held his hand and stayed with him to the end. Damien was an ordinary man who lived an ordinary life. But to his family and friends he was EXTRAORDINARY! Damien LIVED….LOVED….LAUGHED…. HE WILL BE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS….
