Emily Ascino's Obituary
Roaring engines, lifted trucks, souped-up cars and bright smiles filled every corner of life for Emily Estrella Ascino. Whether she was cruising her Harley, cheering on her family and friends at the Mud Bog or ringing in the New Year at her childhood home, she brought unstoppable energy to every gathering. Today we celebrate the beautiful life that revved forward from April 16th, 1952 to August 25th, 2025.
Born in Hilo, Hawaii, Emily grew up surrounded by ocean breezes and wide-open roads. She carried that sense of freedom into adulthood, favoring motorcycle cruises with the Hauoli Hoaloha `Ohana and any adventure that put her under the open sky. Outdoor activities were her happy place, and friends recall the laughter that followed each fast ride and muddy shenanigan.
Family was Emily’s greatest joy. She shared 48 loving years with her late husband, Greg Kalani Ascino Sr., and cheered on their children Ray (Mele) Estrella, Jaelynn (Eddie) Ku, Dustie'Lee Ascino, Greg Kalani Ascino Jr., Keola Ascino, and Keoni Ascino at every milestone. Her gentle guidance extended to her sister Annette Arruda, grandchildren Toby Estrella, Malie Ascino, Mikah Ascino, Pomaikailani (Chase) Tolentino, Robert Abran III, and Shae'Lynn Abran, and even her cat Haukea, each one feeling her loyal support.
Emily opened her home to hundreds of foster children, offering warm meals, big hugs, a safe space and a listening ear to anyone who needed it. Many of those children now credit her resilient spirit and kind words for setting their lives on a brighter course. Her house was proof that love can overflow without ever running out.
Friends remember Emily in every ride, as she rode her Harley-Davidson Fat Boy with the pack to scenic stops and hearty plate lunches. She was known to have the loudest pipes on her Harley and she was proud of it. At mud bogs she cheered the loudest for her family, proud of everyone that conquered the pit. Her lifted trucks, beautiful Harley's and souped-up cars, the creations of her late husband, live on in the memories of so many in her community.
Emily’s life teaches us to stay resilient, kind, supportive, loyal, and empathetic no matter the terrain we face. Honoring her means living wide open, helping where we can, and celebrating every mile together.
