Fernandez "Pedring" Briones Fernando's Obituary
Fernandez Briones Fernando was born in the Philippines on the month of June 1925. He Passed away in his sleep in the late morning hours of January 20, 2014 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was 88 years old on his day of passing and is survived by 6 sons (Johnny, Nestor, Alex, Pedro, Orlando, Dennis), 3 daughters (Evelyn, Lydia, Angelita), 10 grand-children (Mary, Jennifer, Marino, Manuel, Valarie, Tasha, Simone, Alexa), and 19 great grand-children.
Dad was a professional gourmet baker who loved fishing, boxing, loud music, and telling stories of his glory days back in the Philippines. Who would have thought the man loved golf (so I've been told).
This is one man that has played a major role in my understanding of hard work, determination, and perseverance not so much through words, but through his actions and commitment to hard work. Simply put, the man was a workaholic; not because he wanted to, but because he had to in order to help raise a large family. This commitment has later served me well in my journey as a college undergraduate, an athlete of 15 years, a husband of 25 years, a father of 24 years, a grandfather, an IT professional of 15 years, and ultimately a new born Christian of 25 years.
In each of these phases of my life my strive for success in whatever I did and establishing a sound foundation of Christ like character and integrity, I believe, has started with Dad's display of hard work and commitment to working two full-time jobs on the weekdays and one part-time job on the weekends and sleeping only a few hours on a daily basis or whenever he can (in the car ride to-from work, waiting for mom to finish grocery shopping, waiting to pick up mom from work, etc.).
This man will be sorely missed and greatly appreciated despite his short-comings; ". . . for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). This man loved his wife to the tune of 60+ years of marriage.
As we go through life be mindful that fame and fortune is fleeting; life is short (James 4:13-17); and represent Christ as best as we can to spread the good news of Christ’s return (Mark 16:15). Love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5). And, Love each other as Christ has loved us. Greater love has no one than this to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:12-23). Serve and Glorify God with the talents and riches He has blessed us with and in return we will be blessed (Luke 6:38).
Dad, although I will miss you greatly, God has called you home to a better place (Rev. 21:4).
I love you .
Dennis
