Fred Roy Young's Obituary
Celebrating the Life Of Our Dad, Papa, Tutu Papa…Fred Roy Young
Aloha Family and Friends,
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Fred Roy Young. At 88 years old, Dad passed peacefully in his home on March 9, 2025, with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren surrounding him.
Dad was born in Honolulu, Hawai’i on the Island of Oahu on May 20, 1936, to William Young of Kahaluu and Margaret Young (Schilling) of Honolulu. Known by his nickname “Palsey” by his siblings and family members growing up. He was raised and grew up on the Windward side of the island in Kaneohe along with his siblings. Dad attended and graduated from the Honolulu Technical Institute & High School and joined the Army National Guard Later, he would enlist in the United States Air Force where he would begin his lifelong passion and childhood dream of fixing and building airplanes. He would later re-enlist in the Air Force Reserves until he would eventually become a civilian federal government employee continuing his mission of being an Aircraft Mechanic with Boeing under the United States Air Force. By this time, Dad would have started a family and would continue on his profession with Qantas Airways until he began his 20-year career at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as a Heavy Equipment Crane Mechanic until he retired in 1996. Dad was a hardworking man. Even throughout his almost 30 years of retirement he was still working fixing things and building things. Dad loved talking with us and sharing stories about his time in the military and working for the federal government. Those were the highlights of his life. It brought him so much joy every time he would share with us. Dad accomplished and fulfilled everything he ever dreamed of doing. He was a very humble man. He didn’t need or want any accolades. He loved taking care of his grandchildren and at his later years he enjoyed his time with his great grandchildren. We miss you Dad! You will forever be in our hearts!!
Dad is survived by our mom, Gwendolyn “Keala” Young; son, Roy Young (Kanoe); daughters, Heidi Aveiro and Carla Andersen (Spencer); hanai daughter, Tay Namahoe Pundyke (Rusty); 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brothers Earl Young and Kerry Young; sisters, Constance “Boots” Teixeira and Sally “Nini” Silva.
