Kenneth Satoru Sunada's Obituary
Kenneth Satoru Sunada, 86, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on Tuesday,
October 21, 2025.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on February 18, 1939, to Satoshi and Haruko Sunada, Ken dedicated his life to his loving wife, Cynthia, his family, and the judo community. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth, who has now been reunited with his beloved wife, Cynthia. Together, they devoted their lives to raising their three sons
and fostering the growth of judo around the world.
Although Kenneth played football in high school and college, he later refocused his energy on judo once his sons began to show an interest in the martial art. Kenneth’s passion for both his family and the sport of judo was matched only by Cynthia’s, and their shared efforts left a lasting impact on countless lives. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering support for all who knew him.
In 1964, Ken married his beloved wife, Cynthia Mew Gin Ching, and together they raised three sons — Clayton, Clinton, and Clifton. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ken found his greatest joy in his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia, and his parents, Haruko and Satoshi Sunada. He is survived by his children: Clayton (Cathleen), Clinton (Marleen), and Clifton (Miki); and by his five cherished grandchildren: Kayla, Kailee, Leina, Luke, and Misa.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by services, a reception, and burial.
