Marcelino Cudal's Obituary
Marcelino Cudal, better known as “Masa” to his family and friends, was called home on Friday, March 13, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1930, on the island of Maui, the third of four children.
At a young age, Masa moved to Oʻahu, where he made Kalihi his home. He graduated from Farrington High School, Class of 1949, and briefly served in the National Guard.
Masa was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent over 60 years working. He began at a very young age shining shoes and continued his strong work ethic throughout his life, eventually retiring from Tripler Army Medical Center and Liberty House, which later became Macy’s.
After a long day’s work, rain or shine, Masa could often be found swimming at Ala Moana Beach Park, where he built friendships with lifeguards and regulars alike. He enjoyed simple pleasures, stopping to shop for good deals, spending time in his yard, and relaxing at home with a Natural Light beer while watching boxing, WWE, or MMA.
Masa was known for being hardworking, humble, and deeply proud of his family and life.
He is survived by his son, Randy Cudal; daughters, Carolyn Cudal and Janice Basque; and his grandchildren: Shane Cudal, Darryl Cudal, Chantel Cudal-Gomes, Brandon Basque, Jamie Cabuyadao, Amber Cabuyadao, Brandie Basque, Don Cabuyadao Jr., Kimberly Florendo, and Brian Cabuyadao. He also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and his sister, Monica “Moning” Bartolome.
Masa was loved by many, and his memory will forever be held close in our hearts.
