Romana Gamata Fontanilla's Obituary
Romana Gamata Fontanilla, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away January 11, 2018 at Pali Momi Medical Center. She was 86 years old. Born in Aparri Cagayan, Philippines on February 6, 1931 to parents Benito Gamata and Carmen Pajarillo Gamata, Romana was a retired housekeeper for Ala Moana Hotel with more than 35 years of service, a member of the AFL-CIO Local 5, and an active and devoted parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Romana had a “green thumb” and loved her plants and garden, especially her orchids! She was also a great cook and known for her specialty…Filipino desserts.
She is survived by her children, Lorna (Jose) Cabudol, Jacqueline (Paul) Javier, Steve (Aloha) Fontanilla and Ranjah (Patrick) Jimeno; 13 grandchildren, Joel Cabudol, Shane Cabudol, Roma Morishita, Sharae Fontanilla-Ricks, Zachary Ricks, Denton Javier, Kennedy Javier, Stefanee Fontanilla, Andrew Aragon, Isaiah Jimeno, Brooke Jimeno, Haylee Jimeno and Jaeda Jimeno; 4 great-grandchildren, Arielle Cabudol, Raiden and Ronin Morishita, Chloe Cabudol; brother Felino Gamata; niece, Demetria Gamata Cabrera.
Wake services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Visitation will be from 5:30-9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Additional services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (2324 Omilo Lane, Honolulu 96819). Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
