“My parents had the foresight to purchase plots at Valley of the Temples many decades ago. It was not until September 2025, that my brother and I had the need to contact the mortuary. In dealing with Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary at Valley of the Temples, Mom and Dad could not have picked a better place.
My brother and I had the task of laying to rest not one but three family members who passed within the last 4 years. With Covid still a concern and to spare our parents the distress of a funeral at their age, the plan was to have a combined memorial for all three.
From the start, the staff of Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary at Valley of the Temples was a pleasure to work with. Always kind and responsive, they made the task of planning a Celebration and Life and burial much less of an ordeal. With his generosity of time and expertise, a family service advisor, Carlos, made sure Dad, Mom, and our eldest brother’s headstone design was just the way we wanted and the burial of their urns would be as we requested. He was knowledgeable about what was available to us and presented us with our options concerning the headstone, burial and other services. He was very patient with us as we navigated the paperwork required and was there at the burial to make sure everything went as planned. Carlos made sure to get us in contact with a funeral director, Shelly, who helped us with the Celebration of Life and reception.
Shelly was supportive and kind as she helped us plan for the use of Trousdale Chapel and a reception on its lanai. Professional and thoughtful, she helped us navigate necessary paperwork and was keen on documenting our wishes for the chapel’s use. Shelly was key in arranging military honors for Dad with a 21-gun salute, which was phenomenal. She made sure Dad, Mom, and brother’s obituaries along with a slideshow were loaded onto the mortuary’s website, ordered the delicious menu for the reception lunch, and arranged for flowers, delivered to the chapel, to be transported to the burial site after the service. The Celebration of Life and reception went flawlessly in large part due to her efforts.
A funeral director, Quentin was assigned to help us on the day of the Celebration and Life and burial. We could not have asked for a kinder, gentler soul than Quentin to be there for us. He was there on time to open the chapel, answer any questions, reassure us, and make sure everything was in place and everything went as planned. He kept the day’s events moving along, respectfully communicating what would be happening and when. Quentin even had a box of tissues at the ready during the service and sang Amazing Grace, very beautifully, at the burial.
My brother and I and our families are grateful to the staff of Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary at Valley of the Temples in helping us honor our dad/grandpa, mom/grandma, and brother/uncle and lay them to rest. They took great care of us on our journey to take care of them.
